Agenda: Border Management Relating to Counter-Terrorism
Counter-Terrorism implementation task force
Established by the Secretary General in 2005 and endorsed by the UN General Assembly through the United Nations Global Counter Terrorism Strategy, the Counter Terrorism implementation task force (CTITF) works towards enhancing coordination and efficiency of United Nation’s counter terrorism efforts. It consists of 31 international entities, each entity makes contributions within it’s own mandate.
The implementation of the Global counter terrorism strategy lies in the hands of the member states. CTITF ensures that the UN system is attuned to the needs of the member nations. It provides the member states with policy support, technical assistance and help in spreading in depth knowledge of the strategy.
Through this task force each entity’s comparative advantage is maximized as they work as one and help the member states in implementing the four pillars of the strategy which are -
• to address the conditions conducive to the spread of terrorism
• to prevent and combat terrorism
• to build states’ capacity to prevent and combat terrorism and to strengthen the role of the United Nations system in that regard
• to ensure respect for human rights for all and the rule of law as the fundamental basis for the fight against terrorism
